American Square Dancing is one of the best kept secrets. It is best described as fun and friendship set to music. It is a great way to keep fit both mentally and physically and it is for men, women, singles and couples of all ages. Square Dancing is probably the simplest form of dance because it merely involves walking in time to the beat of the music. So even if you have two left feet and cannot dance, Square Dancing could be for you.

Mondays 14.00 - 15.30 at St Saviour's Community Centre

So what are the benefits of Square Dancing?

Cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance are improved through the continual physical movement of the activity. Dancing can burn as many calories as walking, swimming and riding a bike: dancing for half an hour can burn 200 - 400 calories. Mental agility is developed by learning and remembering the moves and concentrating during the dances. The side to side movements of many dances strengthens your weight bearing bones and can slow down the loss of bone mass ( osteoporosis ). Most importantly it is a great way to meet people and have fun.
